This is a typical apartment housed in a 1960s Athenian polykatoikia. The apartment was used for the last 30 years as a doctor's office and the tenants now desire to fully renovate it and convert it into a modern lifestyle apartment, for short-term rental.
The floor plan of the apartment is quite complex with diagonal walls. The challenge in this project lies in changing apartment’s use and creating a modern living space, making use of all the spaces, despite the difficult floor plan, with the least possible interventions.
The design features one bedroom, a bathroom, while the unification of reception and waiting area created a generous living space, divided into a kitchen, dining room and living room. A sofa bed in the dining area offers a place for occasional sleeping for two people.
Particular emphasis was placed on fixed furniture and fittings, which serve to trick the eye from the slanted walls. A custom-made built-in furniture which functions as a storage space and headboard, has “straighten” the slanted wall in the bedroom.
Different colors on the walls have been chosen as to separate the different uses. Plants on the back balcony looking the courtyard, give color and hide the opposite buildings.
